Body Armour, Stab Vests and Slash Resistant Clothing
The Corporate Manslaughter & Corporate Homicide Act 2007, the Criminal Justice & Immigration Act 2008 Act and a noticeable increase in lack of respect, have lead key decision makers within the public and private sector to look at the potential use of body armour, stab vests or knife resistant clothing within their line of work.
Our extensive range of lightweight body armour and stab vests, as well as our groundbreaking Spectra® lined slash resistant clothing, provide a functional solution to individuals who require extra protection in their chosen vocation. All of our body armour and stab vests provide exceptional Home Office certified knife and needle protection as well as unequalled protection from blunt trauma caused by either a punch, blow or kick.
Based on our professional frontline experience of wearing body armour and extensive research we can confirm that an impact based assault is a more likely event than an attack involving an edged weapon. Please view our rather striking video demonstrations of our Home Office certified body armour, stab vests and slash resistant clothing.
Why do we advise so many to consider issuing frontline staff with body armour, stab vests or knife resistant clothing?
The UK's Health and Safety Laboratory (HSL) developed 18 case studies in 2002 and 2003, approached over 400 organisations across a range of different professions, sent detailed questionnaires to all and conducted countless interviews. The outcome of these widely respected case studies is of great relevance to why we at ASEO are so passionate about body armour, stab vests and knife resistant clothing.
Key risk areas that would enhance the need for body armour:
-
Dealing with certain high risk individuals, such as potentially violent or aggressive members of the public, drug users or dealers, or mentally ill individuals.
-
Operating in certain geographical areas or trouble spots are high risk, such as poor or run down council estates should lead to the issue of personal protective equipment, such as body armour, stab vests or slash resistant clothing.
-
Dealing with frustrated and disappointed customers (e.g. customers unhappy with the service your organisation has provided)
-
Visiting people in their home or office to enforce laws and regulations, police the system or having to give bad news.
-
Working late at night could increase the need for PPE, such as body armour, stab vests.

Many more reasons can be highlighted, making a decision not to issue potentially life saving body armour, stab vests or slash resistant clothing even more controversial. The cost of facing potential legal action after a fatal or non-fatal incident and the cost of injured employees taking time off would outweigh the one-off cost of body armour and stab vests, and assaults on personnel who are not wearing protective clothing also create bad publicity for the Organisation concerned, not to mention the welfare of the person involved.
The most common argument against body armour
The most common argument against body armour, stab vests and slash resistant clothing is the concern about how it could be seen by members of the public. We at ASEO fully understand that 'Perception' is without a doubt one of the most important factors within personal safety, and we agree with the fact that overt body armour or stab vests can often be perceived as confrontational and authoritive. Frontline employees dealing with the public should be doing their utmost to express themselves as peaceful ambassadors within their line of work. 'Covert' body armour or stab vests allow them to do exactly that, whilst still being protected.
Our key argument in favour of body armour
Recommending body armour, stab vests or slash resistant clothing does not mean we suggest you are in danger, we just say that you will have a higher chance of remaining unharmed in the unlikely, but possible, case of something going wrong. Wearing body armour or stab vests can be compared to wearing a seat belt when driving a car. We do not put the seat belt on because we believe we are going to have an accident today. We are simply acknowledging the fact that there is a remarkably small chance that we might crash. Yet, if this chance becomes reality, you have increased the chance of survival by wearing a seat belt.
We at ASEO are globally respected and renowned experts in body armour and stab vests for domestic or civil frontline services, such as public sector enforcement teams, emergency services, hospital or university security personnel or the private security sector.
